Week 2 ~ Silent Night re-imagined
Week 2′s drip catches me thinking about yule time. I’ve been nagging my old band-mates to do a Christmas album for several years now, but there never seems to be enough time or by the time we are thinking about it it IS Christmas and too late to put an album together. So the time to do and think about a Christmas album is now, right after Christmas when my son is still playing with his Christmas toys and the bills haven’t come yet. And, if I start now, I have all year to get it ready for November and December. So here goes nothing – song number 1 on my new Christmas CD due out in November 2009.
This is a reworking of the old stand-by Silent Night. I’ve always thought this carol was a bit sappy, but I liked the 3/4 feel of it and thought that that could be emphasized as well as the folksy feel that this carol exudes. This is still in the demo stage and needs more of something around the voice or needs to be sung by a female perhaps (any takers?). I like the idea of a small string ensemble in the background as well – even though the strings playing here are samples you can get the idea of a warmth that they lend to the sound.
So here is week 2′s drip ~ a beginning to a Christmas album. Let me know what you think!
